Executive Priviledge

"Look, I just didn't like those guys," says President Bush, "so it was pink slips all around."

Okay, he doesn't really say that in this article. But still, this whole thing about the fired federal prosecuters is just stupid.

First, they're lawyers...they can get other jobs. Second, we've got lots more lawyers...and now some different ones have new jobs working for the U.S. government. Third, he's the President of the United States of America, for crying out loud...if he can't fire a few lawyers when he wants too, then what is the point?

Yeesh. Priorities. Haven't they got anything better to do in Congress than vote themselves pay raises, play with their pet pork projects, and piddle with this kind of trivia? They need to shut up and get back to work.

Some of your more cynical readers, me for example, think it might actually be better for all of us if they don't. Given how slip-shod and ill-considered most of their work is, nit-picking and political theatre is preferable.

It's not like the work they'd chose to do would be anything of import, say fixing social security or simplifying compliance with arcane tax code.

On topic, it sure is a good thing he didn't fire the travel office employees! Given the selective amnesia of his critics, that would have been called the scandal of the century, never-before-seen abuse of power, unchecked malice, blah blah blah.

Sorry I missed the DCI show last night, but on the plus side I did get to do a little flying. That was nice. Hope it went well for you guys.
